Summer is a great time for parties, but that means a lot of potential for food and drinks to be spilled on the carpet. Some of these can be tackled with swift action, but others may require professional carpet cleaning.
Of course, your party is likely to start outdoors, with plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed in the garden, but with the days now getting significantly shorter, people may soon be heading inside.
This is where the risk of spills on carpets gets greater, whether it is red wine or coffee, dips like hummus or guacamole, or a mishap involving trifle or ice cream.
Most spillages can be tackled effectively with very early interventions, for example:
- Red wine can be tackled by pouring on fizzy water to dilute it and prevent the red pigments from seeping into the carpet, before blotting it with paper towels.
- A substance like hummus can be removed firstly by scooping up as much of it as possible, then using an absorbent powder like baking soda to stop the oil soaking in.
- Similarly, ice cream should be scooped up as much as possible and then a gentle cleaning solution and blotting should be applied.
What Happens If You Do Not Tackle Carpet Stains Quickly?
In all these cases, the key is not just to use the right methods and substances, but also to act fast.
However, two problems may present themselves. Firstly, you may have limited success in tackling the stain and not get it all.
Secondly, they may not all be spotted, which means you may get a shock the morning after, when the stain has dried in and pigments may be embedded.
This is where you may need the experts to come in with more heavy-duty equipment to give your carpet a thorough cleaning.
Not only will it remove signs of any summer party calamities; it will also have it looking immaculate as summer passes into autumn and any social events will start to take place exclusively indoors.
